Hitler's White Russians: Collaboration, Extermination, and Anti-Partisan Warfare in Belorussia, 1941-1944. 1891227424. By Dr. Oleg Romanko & Antonio Munoz. Oversized, hard cover, 512 pages, color cover, hundreds upon hundreds of black & white and color maps, line drawings, tables, charts, orders of battle, numerous detailed appendices. The following book review was written by Academic author, Colonel French L. MacLean regarding this work:
As an
author, who has written five books on the German army and Waffen-SS, I applaud
this latest effort by Antonio Munoz and Dr. Oleg Romanko on Hitler's White
Russians. In all aspects, this work has set the standard for information on
collaboration, extermination and anti-partisan warfare in Byelorussia during
World War II. In short, the book is fabulous. First, the book is extremely
high-quality in it's production. The 500 pages, on glossy stock, make the
photographs and maps jump out in superb detail. I've spent roughly twenty years
researching World War II archives in four countries, and three-quarters of the
photographs in the book are ones I had never seen before! From action
photographs during combat operations, to close-ups of key leaders, the book
could stand alone among related works for the photographs alone. But there
is much more. The maps, many of which are in color, are easy to follow, and
include depictions of every major anti-partisan campaign in the area. Equally as
informative are the dozens of order of battle charts and tables that go into
superb detail of German army, police, SS and indigenous forces that participated
in these operations. The authors' writing styles are easy to read, and
their use of footnotes, from hundreds of sources, show that they have left no
stone unturned in their effort to get the complete story of what happened in
this little-known theater of the war. Everything is here; you need nothing else
to understand what happened. This is not some puff-piece that glosses over the
facts. It is an extremely scholarly work, but one written in a style that is
reader-friendly. I salute the authors for their wonderful effort. Mr.
Munoz succeeded in producing a fabulous book. I suspect I will be consulting it
for my own writing efforts for years to come.

1891227440. By Dr. Peter Huxley-Blythe. Hard cover, oversized, 176 pages,
dozens color and b&w photos, uniform and insignia/badge illustrations. The
English author interviewed many of these Russian and Cossack volunteers
(sometimes traveling to far off parts of the world where these officers and men
had sought sanctuary in the late 1940's and early 1950's). The work was
published in limited numbers in the late 1950's. Now FULLY EXPANDED with
additional material and photographs, Dr. Huxley-Blythe has covered the complete
history of the special commando formation - Sonderverband R (Sonder Division
R), which operated in the region of Army Group North and was stationed for
most of its existence in the northern town of Pskov. In addition, the divisions
of the Cossack Cavalry Corps, as well as other Russian units are covered.
The Druzhina SS Brigade: A History, 1941-1943. 1891227319. By Antonio Munoz. Perfect bound, 96 pages, color covers with color plates,
numerous maps, charts and tables. This is the history of the SD-sponsored
Drizhina brigade. The unit performed exceptionally well until about the
beginning of 1943 when the unit's commander began planning the unit's defection
to the communist partisans. The cadre German personnel in the unit were
massacred and the bulk of the formation defected and was re-designated as the
"1st Anti-Fascist Partisan Brigade". Some time in the fall of 1943, the SS and
SD finally caught up to the formation during an anti-partisan drive in the Lepel
region of central Russian and slaughtered to the last man. Before the unit's
pragmatic Soviet commander was killed, a German SS officer reportedly shouted,
"a dogs death for a dog." A GREAT VALUE for only $12.00 per copy!
